Violins Violence Silence
In a couple of parts of the museum there were some dark rooms because of art like this. Violins Violence Silence was something you couldn't take your eye off of. It was like a bar sign flashing advertising they're open. I sat there for a minute or two trying to figure out exactly what it said.
When I figured out that it said Violins, Violence, Silence it made me think a little deeper. Maybe the point of this piece by Bruce Nauman was illustrating the fact that there is violence going on however there are too many that are silent. If someone does say anything about it it's just heard as a random word and no one should pay any mind to it. I feel as if that is the case a lot of times when there is violence in the world, it's as if it's expected and accepted which is a horrible expectation and something that shouldn't be accepted.

Mandora
Music has always been a huge part of my life. I knew this was a piece of art I had to talk about when I started working on my e-Portfolio. It's amazing how artists can incorporate simple things and make them even more beautiful.
The mandora is an instrument I'd never seen until this painting. A mandora is a type of lute instrument. When you look at the painting you can tell it looks somewhat like a small guitar. It's such a simple piece but the way George Braque has the texture along with the color is very impressive and alluring. It was one of the calmer works of art in the Tate Modern. I've never been a huge fan of modern art but there were some nice pieces in there.

Tate Britain
Gilbert & George: Red Morning Trouble
I loved this because of the black and white photos with the red color splash. Color splash always makes pictures pop more. I really enjoy photography so it was nice to see this piece in the Tate Britain. It displays sophisticated looking men, rocks and cityscapes.
This piece was part of a series of seventeen by Gilbert & George, I didn't pay a lot of attention to it but now I'm realizing little details like the upside tree in the middle. The red images symbolize claustrophobic entombment. The frames were designed by the artists so the piece would stay as flat as possible.

Two Females
Ceri Richard's Two Females piece really caught my eye when I first saw it, i couldn't make out very well what it was supposed to be. As I looked at it a little closer and also looked at the title I thought this could be his way of illustrating how complex a woman can be. The use of the different objects making these two females is a lot different than I've seen before.
"Two representations of the female form are contrasted in this relief. On the right, virginal though budding and seductive, and on the left, fulsome and latently sexual", once I read that I could somewhat see what he was getting at. The one on the right being very beautiful and still innocent. Many see innocence as a wonderful thing and become very attracted to it which could be why the female representation on the right is so with the pretty flowers that are blooming.
The representation on the left, Richards describes as being "fulsome and latently sexual" which I had a hard time interpreting however I feel like Richards is portraying the figure on the right as a bigger woman yet still desirable. They're just two different forms of being sexy or showing sexuality.

Yellow Irises
Yellow Irises looks so different in comparison to other Pablo Picasso paintings I've seen. This seems more calm and home like where as other pieces I've seen are very vibrant and there's a lot going on.
This painting reminds me of something that would be in a grandmother's home. I chose this painting because it's another famous piece by a very well known artist. The calmness of it could reflect how he was feeling at the time, maybe a time where he missed a nice home life. It was very pretty though.

Nevermore
Before reading the description I made my own assumption about the point of the painting. Being that there is a naked woman lying in a bed with two women looking as if they're gossiping about her. The nude woman looks upset which possibly because she heard the other two women talking about her. I didn't take the Raven into consideration at first. Some think of ravens to be It always amazes me that there are things in art that can play such a big part in the meaning. It can be very thought provoking.
Paul Gauguin's Nevermore is another piece of art I had never seen. The title comes from Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven. In the poem, the raven repeatedly says "Nevermore". He had painted this after going to visit Tahiti. He thought the island would be untouched but instead found it to be a "corrupted society".

Sunflowers
It would be hard to find someone who hasn't seen this infamous painting by Van Gogh. I remember the first time I saw this was on my favorite TV show when I was younger (Boy Meets World). They showed the characters going to a Van Gogh exhibit and ever since that is what I connect this painting with. It takes me back to when I was younger but I can still appreciate the beauty of it.
The painting has a couple different shades of yellow but he was able to incorporate the green without it taking away from the Sunflowers. I was fortunate enough to see a Vincent Van Gogh painting in person. I'm not always the biggest fan of paintings, I prefer looking at wonderful photography but this was very nice!

The Boulevard Montmartre at Night
The Boulevard Montmartre at Night painting wasn't originally the other painting I had chosen. This was in the second room I walked into at the National Gallery and it was the first one I looked at in the room. I couldn't get over how much detail there was in this painting. I had never seen or heard of this painting until seeing it in the National Gallery. It was truly beautiful.
Camille Pissarro is the artist. Pissarro painted this in 1897 while sitting in his hotel room in Paris. He did many town and city scene paintings. This is the only scene he painted at night. If you look closely at the painting, it would be hard to tell that it was a boulevard in the city of light & love. It's incredible how he can make it look as if the roads are wet because it had been raining. The fact that this was the only night scene he painted may have been a reflection on the way he was feeling at that point in his life or in that moment. Being that this painting took place in a dark and wet Paris which is sometimes called the city of love could portray a rough time with love. Even in 1897, Paris was as beautiful as it is today. The painting is absolutely breathtaking.
